In the process the sanctity of confidentiality is not only lost but sliced and slashed to suit the channel's perspective. It is a bare fact that most of the damage done during the 26/11 Mumbai attacks was contributed to the verbatim second by second live telecast done by the various television channels each vying to outdo the others totally forgetting they were softly abetting the Terrorists. The lessons learnt from this grave security lapse is being again repeated in this Mumbai attack too with almost all TV channels vying for the top TRP spot. This is no media ethics or morality. This is an unflinching quest for selfish cynical personal commercial profits with an attitude that come what my in the way, to hell with it.

Wish more sense and maturity came to the visual media when it comes to disasters pertinent to national security. No doubt their work is commendable being amidst the thick of matters, but they should approach disaster according to its merit and give due respect where confidentiality is due. A coverage of a natural disaster or an accident merits a coverage quite different from that of a bomb blast or border incursions. Give it its due respect is all what we, the viewers ask.

Your point is well taken.prashhanthkpphttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02813673452332214491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8128981159160729349.post-26479436307022878402011-07-13T12:48:46.489+05:302011-07-13T12:48:46.489+05:30Agree!! Parameters have been ascribed to conformity of one's life and conduct to moral and ethical principles such that now, it should be something close to XXX Porn to be called vulgar. Anything remotely softer than this is defined as 'fashion', 'trend', 'latest', 'modern' and so forth. The hastiness to ape the west in all its vice and virtues leaves a huge cultural space beyond recognition. Cannot blame the emergence of economics & wealth as contributors to this 'trend'. If so, China would be walking NUDE by now. Hence, that is a baseless and a defeated argument. Primarily, the Indian conscience is adhered to a 'white' outlook, perhaps the legacy of colonialism left behind. That a society should consider, rather, imbibe it as the only social value that can sustain their 'elite socialitism' is not only merely foolish but grossly impudent.

God save India...! A very thoughtful blog.
